VIAPAC – Route de l’Art Contemporain au Vernet

VIAPAC – Route de l’Art Contemporain au Vernet

A thousand meal trays by Stéphane Bérard. The Hannibal pavilion to house the contemporary work of art by artist Trevor Gould, known as “The Hannibal Elephant”.

A Europe-wide project, VIAPAC – Route de l’art contemporain links the towns of Digne-les-Bains, in France, and Caraglio, in Italy, through the works of twelve contemporary artists. The works on this route, all created specifically for the sites in which they are installed (natural sites, heritage buildings), provide a real key to understanding the identity of this Bas-Alpes region in an original way.
The Haute-Provence Geological Nature Reserve, in partnership with the Alpes de Haute-Provence General Council, the Piedmont Region and the Marcovaldo cultural association, have developed the VIAPAC contemporary art route between Digne and Caraglio (Italy).
The key feature of this project is the commissioning of permanent works along a road route (D900) passing through the Clues de Barles, the Col Saint-Jean and the Col de Larche, creating a route for contemporary art and contributing to the development of tourism and culture between France and Italy.
