The Communal Church of Notre-Dame of Bethlehem has been classified as a historical monument since 16/11/1891 in Bayons. If you would like to visit, just open the door and step inside!
Bayons parish church is an exceptional building representative of Romanesque architecture in high Provence despite Gothic influences. Its single nave, covered with o broken vault opens, almost without transept, on a flat apse choir perced with a triple bay and vaulted by intersecting ribs.
It was probably built during the 13th century and its dimensions reflect the importance of the community of Bayons at that time (the largest of the viguerie of Sisteron).
The following centuries saw the decline of the community and the church suffered from a lack of maintenance; it was classified a historic munument in 1891.
Gothic influences are seen in the portal, the vaul of the choir and the bell tower.
The interior shows : the beautiful altarpiece said of the Adoration of the Magi; a carved pulpit; a Virgin and Child; painting of St Blaise and Assumption ; and the gilded high altar.
