It was not until the middle of the 17th century that the Saint Martin parish church was established in the village.
The land to build it on was finally approved by the bishop in 1641. This church is reffered to as a parish church, on par with the one in Bas-Vernet which was built at the same time. The Saint-Martin church also has a cemetery where all sacraments are administered ; this duality would be the cause of many long precedence conflicts between the two parishes. During the bishop’s visit in 1683, he mentions : “this Saint-Martin church is located at the end of the village. There is an altar with a painting repesenting Jesus crucified, Virgin Mary, Saint John on the right and Saint Martin on the left, enclosed in a painted wooden frame. Next to it, there is a wooden bust representing Saint Pancras inside of which there are relics of him sealed with our stamp. The bust is decorated with a small necklace of fine pearls.
