The plateau of Valensole is today one of the most important places for the cultivation of lavender and lavandin.

In a sometimes hilly landscape, you will find fields as far as the eye can see around mid-June to mid-July. The flowering depends on the weather.

The Romans used to perfume their baths and clothes with lavender and put lavender bags in their cupboards to make love wishes. Implanted in France by the Phocaeans, it found its land of predilection in Provence thanks to the climate favoring its productivity. The culture is now well developed and we saw the appearance in the 20s of lavandin whose yield is higher and its production of essence up to ten times higher than that of traditional lavender.

The lavandin is a hybrid resulting from the crossing by pollination between the true lavender and the aspic (wild lavender). It is a very developed clump with a long and compact floral spike. The flowers are used in the closets to keep insects away, the essential oil deodorizes the interior of the houses. It is also used to perfume washing powder and soaps.
