The Tour du Lac is a trail with almost no elevation gain, along the water, through forests and reed beds. This natural area with a wealth of flora and fauna to discover with the family is a little paradise for nature lovers.
Located in the heart of the Haute-Provence Ornithological Reserve, the Lac de l’Escale offers a multitude of habitats that are favorable to the year-round presence of many species of birds. The “Tour du Lac” walk allows you to admire the different environments in detail and encounter species characteristic of these areas. It is a remarkable site for birdlife, 170 different species of sedentary and migratory birds have been counted, here are some emblematic species that can be encountered: Cetti’s Warbler, Reed Bunting, Great Warbler, European Bee-eater, European Kingfisher, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Eurasian Coot, Common Pochard, Green-winged Teal, Garganey, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Great Egret, Northern Shoveler, Wigeon, Snipe, Hobby… Be careful, seeing these species is not guaranteed! You will nevertheless be able to enjoy beautiful landscapes and you will have the possibility of seeing other species (butterflies, dragonflies). Along the way, six discovery areas, observation terraces on the Durance and around twenty interpretation desks reveal the history of this natural site and present the biodiversity of this exceptional wetland.
The 100m long Haute-Provence suspension footbridge allows you to connect the two banks of the Durance. Take the time to discover and observe all the riches of this natural site. Do not leave the designated route so as not to disturb the species present and do not forget your binoculars!
