VTT n°12 - Massif des Monges

Heading towards the Monges chairlift, this is a not-to-be-missed route in the Blanche Serre-Ponçon mountain bike sector. Crossing pastures at 2,000 m.

Panoramic view of the Monges massif and the Barre des Écrins. Start on a track, then a series of single-track paths, with some technical sections in the high mountains (section behind gullies, portage possible).

Chabanon resort (1,600 m) – From the centre of the resort, follow the track that runs past the car parks towards the Monges chairlift, following mountain bike signposting no. 12 (Balisage). From this track, descend slightly at the “La Casse” crossroads, then “La Piste de Chauvet” and climb left to the Montagnette.
Poteau La Montagnette (1,590 m) – Take the track leading up to the left, shared with the GR®6. On the hillside, it overlooks the cirque of the Sasse valley before continuing along a pretty path up through the mountain pastures to the Sauvegréous pass.
Poteau Sauvegréous (1,800 m) – At the heart of the Monges massif, stay on the mountainside path heading towards the Col des Tomples. After crossing a few taps and climbing up into the mountain pastures, cross the pass and descend on the other side. The path joins the Planes hut, the Combanière pass and then a track on the left leading to the Négron farms.
Poteau Négron (1,680 m) – Leave the Plateau d’Iroire on your right and continue straight ahead on the track leading back through the woods to the Chabanon resort.
