A testimony to the importance of mule breeding, mule trading and their contribution to the prosperity of the Pays de Seyne until the middle of the 20th century. A short film features the testimonies of local breeders who played a part in the end of this epic.
New for 2022: Horse-drawn carriage rides by reservation 04 92 61 09 02. Half-day donkey hire (subject to availability).
Come and discover the history of the breeding, trade and use of this exceptional animal, the ancient wealth of the Pays de Seyne, in this former 19th-century farmhouse. Discover the life and traditions of this mountain region.
The temporary exhibition “Animals at night”: visitors can discover by torchlight the animals that come out at night in our region. An original staging will reveal some of the particularities of these discreet, noisy or surprising neighbors who lead their lives when we’re asleep.
In summer, animals from the mule family (donkeys and mares) graze in our parks. During work demonstrations, mules use a variety of agricultural, forestry and transport equipment, recalling the agro-pastoral life of yesteryear. They also demonstrate how these remarkable animals are still used today, for carriage rides, skidding, market gardening or as porters on hikes, to name but a few.
In July and August, Thursdays are devoted to immersion activities (demonstrations, carriage rides, etc.). Consult our website or the Tourist Office program.
The rural heritage of the Maison du Mullet is typical of a traditional mountain farm that was important in those days. The ground floor of the former dwelling features a bread oven and its paved workroom, grain stores and vaulted cellars. The bread oven can be used for events and tastings, such as baking bread or potatoes harvested from the farm’s vegetable garden with the help of mules. The threshold of this house, topped by a beehive, opens onto a courtyard entirely paved with a colorful calade.
