In Pierre-Ecrite, a curious Latin inscription, Theopolis “city of God” in Greek, is carved into the rock face and pays tribute to Saint Augustine, who was at that time writing his “City of God”…
In the 5th century, Greek names were frequent despite the widespread use of Latin. “Theopolis” is the name an estate belonging to Dardanus, a powerful governor in Gaul.
