Musée Gassendi

The Gassendi Museum offers encyclopaedic collections in the field of art, local history and physical and natural sciences.

“Open in 1906, the Gassendi museum presents itself as a permanent and evolutive exhibition centre. It is part of the Ambulo museum pole of Digne-les-Bains. Visitors discover the relations developed between natural sciences, ancient art and contemporary art collections through a tour thought of as a mountain trail – the significant elevation of the building is alleviated with a lift and stairs.

The museum visit extends outdoors, with the mountain art collection that you will discover by walking. The visitor becomes a hiker, immersing himself in wild sceneries in the UNESCO Geopark to find these art pieces created in nature and abandoned villages by contemporary artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Herman de Vries, Mark Dion, Paul-Armand Gette, Trevor Gould, Stéphane Bérard, etc… These “art pieces-places” offer you a genuine experience, whether it’s a brief stop or an overnight stay (on reservation www.refugedart.fr).”
