Distilleries et Domaines de Provence

Distillerie de Lure was founded in Forcalquier in 1898. For almost 80 years, it has had a succession of owners, including Henri Bardouin, a man with a passion for plants.

In 1974, Alain Robert and a small team took over the company, which was renamed Distilleries et Domaines de Provence. Emblematic brands such as Farigoule and Gentiane de Lure have existed since the Distillerie’s origins, while others have been developed over time in response to changing tastes and consumption patterns.
Today, these specialties are sold in over 80 countries worldwide.
A little history :
It was in the surrounding mountains (Montagne de Lure) that, as early as the Middle Ages, collectors of medicinal herbs became peddlers, distilling these carefully harvested herbs.
Over the course of the 17th and 18th centuries, these peddlers set up shop in many of the region’s towns, as drug merchants or apothecaries.
In the 19th century, some became pharmacists, others distillers, and some both.
The specialties they developed from Lure plants were often beverages with depurative, tonic, digestive, aperitive or refreshing properties.
Wine and alcohol, maceration and distillation, are all used to extract and preserve the aromas and active principles of the plants. It wasn’t until the end of the century that distillers specialized in the production of liqueurs and aperitifs.
Today, this know-how has been perpetuated for over a hundred years by the same company, Distilleries et Domaines de Provence, and is distributed worldwide, to the delight of spirits lovers….
